Family and Lineage
Hinfolk are universally monogamous and patrilinear and normally the titular family head is the eldest male, but his wife has an equal, but separate status. In the largest and more powerful families the head of what we might call a clan is the eldest male of the most direct line of descent. If the master dies first his titular headship of the clan is taken by his wife and, only after her death, by their son. The custom in the "younger" families is that when the head has no male heir, the headship passes to the daughter's eldest son. In such cases the heir takes the name of his mother’s family while retaining the father’s family name in second place. This is how names like Ravenheart, Hilldream, and Gammage-Brownlocke came to be.Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Highday
The seventh and last day of the week it represented an end and a new beginning. As such it is the chief day of the week for the hinfolk and after noon they considered it a holiday with evening feasts as a toast and celebration of Yondalla, the halfling goddess of life.
