Sea of Sand

The Sea of Sand is phenomenon in a world of magic. Meaning we have no explanation for how it works. The expanse of the western desert retains the visual aspect of a desert however it's properties as far as matter goes bears more resemblance to water. The sands have currents, waves, and many other characteristics once thought unique to the ocean, hence the name. In the same way that islands form in the ocean, volcanic rock formations that breach the surface, the Sea of Sand has islands as well. These islands are much closer in resemblance to the plateaus normally seen in deserts, and topographically are much the same as well. Within the sea there are two primary plateau islands, the Voronya Plateau and the Ankarana Plateau, both hundreds of miles in size, along with smaller clusters of islands referred to collectively as the Isles of Sand. The Sea of Sand and it's including and surrounding areas are officially claimed as within the borders of the Consortium. However in practice very little to the south of Bevelle and Azuth's Landing houses members of the Consortium, and they are in constant conflict with the sea's nomadic denizens, the Viverri.   A vast seemingly ending ocean of sand, and yes when I say ocean it is precisely that. For reasons unknown the whole desert acts for all intents and purposes like an ocean complete with currents and waves. A key difference however is that things tend to sink into the sand much like fast moving quicksand meaning the drowning takes longer.
