Tortle

Tortles are a race of intelligent tortoise-like humanoids.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tortles are reptilian-looking humanoids with large shells on their backs capable of containing their entire bodies. They have leathery skins that varies between olive-green to blue-green hues. The dorsal portion of their shells is usually darker than their skins, while the ventral portion is lighter, usually with yellowish tones.
Although generally poor swimmers, tortles are capable of floating on water and can hold their breath for over an hour. Their high buoyancy grants them the ability to cross swamps, mud, and quicksand with little difficulty.

Biological Traits

Tortles have a unique trait in that they die within a year of mating. If a tortle doesn't mate however they can live up to ~300 years old. Hence why their average lifespan is so low while their maximum lifespan is so long.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tortles mature at a rapid rate within their first year as they must be able to fend for themselves once their parents pass, which usually coincides around the one year mark after the initial mating.

Biological Cycle

Tortles have little tolerance for cold, and usually migrate away from temperate areas when winter approaches.
