Lamina Kingdom

A kingdom far to the north, the Lamina Kingdom is perhaps the most diverse place on the continent with every race being accounted for. As a whole the kingdom is one of the leading countries and commands much power across the continent.
Structure
Kifaro Summershield sits at the top as the elected monarch, however his power is derived from the senate and the constitution. The senate is made of two representatives from each domain within the the kingdom, of which there are 20. The representatives are a mix of elected and chosen. One member is of the family/clan that governs the domain, and the other is specifically someone from outside that unit. This is done because as a domain may be predominately a single race, it is not entirely, and to ensure that there is fair representation this is the system they have chosen. The 20th domain is that of Priderock Castle and it's surrounding lands. The senate members elected in this domain must be from within the local population and cannot be associated with any ruling clans, houses, or families of other domains. This is to keep the lands of the castle free of outside influence from other domains, and that solely of the king.
Unlike most monarchies, the title of king in Lamina is not passed through bloodlines, it is a position elected by the senate. Typically the appointment is for life, however the senate may strip the title away if they lose confidence in the monarch. The king must be elected by a 3/4 majority, which has led to several instances of the state being without a monarch for decades at a time. The king's responsibilities are as the general of the army, head diplomat, negotiator, and executor of the senate's laws. To share the responsibilities the queen, Azeyadole Summershield assists her husband.
The organization of domains is tricky and varied. As for governance it is up to each domain how best to enact the laws of the senate, and in many cases borders of the domains are fluid at best. Some, such as the Chojoorom Clan(Loxodon) like to keep neat borders to their domain, while the Serôsian School(Merfolk) do not keep any formal borders, but monitor what they consider their territory. In the sidebar you will find a map of the domains of the Lamina Kingdom. For many of the water dwelling races their domain stretches under the water however they keep a small portion of land as is tradition.

Among the 20 domains, the clans that hold the most power at the moment are: the Tortles of Sorontil Isle, the Chojoorom Clan of the Loxodon domain, the House of Pharonath of the Triton domain, the Seftoni Clutch of the Aarakocra domain, and the Glowing Plains Clan of the Tabaxi domain.
History
Between the 1st and 2nd Anointed Crusades by the Myrdin Empire the clans and families living in the Toruga Basin came together as their only hope of survival and established their borders in the hopes of staving off the empire.
