Humans

One of the shortest-lived of the races, humans nevertheless make their marks on the world, relying on their innovation and ambition to carry them to all corners of the lands. While most humans live in the feudal nations of their homelands, others have split off to create mercantile city-states, or egalitarian republics with other races. Humans tend to get along with most of the other peoples, often acting as mediators when tensions flare. Many humans make their living as mercenaries or adventurers, and many still live in tribes in close proximity to the orcs, or wander the plains as nomads with the Dragonborn. Human creation stories have them as not native to Endunia, having arrived here on fleets of ships in Great Migrations, originally settling with the Elves and Halflings, and were quick to join the conflicts against the Orcs, Giants, or Goblinoids, seeing them as blasphemers against their gods.   Humans often war amongst themselves or other races over what may seem like trivial matters to Elves or Dwarves, leading to the older races to accept alliances with them skeptically, realizing that the humans’ disposition towards them may change generation to generation. Human attitudes towards magic vary from culture to culture. Some nations welcome the use of the arcane arts, with universities dedicated to the study and instruction of magic officially sponsored by the government. Other nations distrust mages, as they are often perceived to be behind various catastrophes. These cultures usually only trust priests and other vessels of divine magic, and shun other magic users. Regardless of their attitudes to magic, those who can perform even the simplest spells are rare, with most people rarely seeing any magic, and powerful mages are almost unheard of.   Subtypes: Human, Variant Human
