House Skrifaritháttur

House Skrifaritháttur
Attur Skrif was no warrior, only a scribe who had been thrust into an unfortunate circumstance which required him to do things that he was wholly unqualified for. That's how he discovered that he had a knack for the warriors life, despite having once been a decadent servant to the Skylord himself, Attur was now the general of the free gnomes in the army of mortals. He sat at the table with the other luminaries of the races as a representative of the gnomes. It was a wild time to be alive, and an even better time to risk dying.
The house of the dragonmark of scribing was once no more than a house of notetakers that lived at the heel of the Skylord. Once a royal scribe, Attur Skrif was freed upon his Skylord's death during the first battle of Kuola. When the dragons attacked the seat of the imperial throne, Attur took his chance to escape the service of the High Elves in the chaos, and was better off for it, as the servants who stayed were buried alive with their sovereign to serve him in death.
By the end of the War, Attur had worked his way to being one of the leaders of the Gnomish parties, his diplomatic tongue and quick wit making him well served to being the representative surrounded by other races, even those who had enslaved him and his ancestors to service to them. At the conclusion of the treaty, the Red Dragon Trivixus looked upon Attur and gifted him the dragonmark of scribing, as both a gift and as a stab to his former life of service as opposed to his current life as an independent warrior. Though his sons and daughters, Attur's gift spread down the line, manifesting as a tattoo-like birthmark on the inner forearm of every member of the family. There was some randomization to this design, and some variance in the level of abilities granted, from a small twisted stylized knot and the ability to comprehend languages periodically, to a large fractal pattern that allowed a gnome of the house to send a message telepathically over a great distance.
