Alchemy

Alchemy is one of the basest forms of "magic" as classified by The Inquisition. It is dealt with on a local basis, and is often an excuse for a community to rid itself of an unwanted character by accusing them of "alchemy". Actual alchemists are usually highly sought after, as their potions often mean the difference between life and death for many, especially adventurers.
The inquisition usually leaves alchemists be, unless they openly make profits off of their work, for instance on a busy city street. This often leaves alchemists to live in the woods, practicing their art far away from civilisation. Stories about the "hag in the woods" result from such seclusion, though sometimes they turn out to be true...

Alchemy often (but not always) results in potent potions.
