The Manaflow

The Manaflow is an unseen force that underlays and connects all planar life in existence. It is the source of all life, connecting the souls of everything in existence, from gods to beasts. All lifeforms maintain a connection to the Manaflow, regardless of their plane. When a being dies in a plane, its soul is subsumed into the stream, where it awaits rebirth.
The Manaflow is also the source of magic, both arcane and divine. Divine casters call upon the Manaflow's connection to the souls of their deities, while arcane casters tap into the essence of the stream, manipulating its unseen power to manifest physical effects, often from other planes, into their plane of existence. For example, a mage may conjure a ball of flame from the elemental energies of the plane of fire by tapping into the Manaflow.
Martial fighters, as well, can tap into the power of the Manaflow, imbuing their bodies with its power to perform inhuman feats, far beyond the capabilities of ordinary beings.
Most free folk have a relatively weak connection to the Manaflow, and will only ever have a limited capacity to tap into its power. The Manaborn, however, can learn to harness the Manaflow with frightening potential.
