  • Introduction

    Your experience at the temple behind the waterfall, along with some dedicated downtime, have honed your skills and helped you develop some new ones.   While you've been in town, there have been a string of earthquakes. Most were small and subtle, but a couple were big enough to knock things over. The townsfolk are on edge.   Anything anyone got up to during the last few weeks?
      > Characters take turns role-playing their time in town.
  • Does Reverence still have that box?
  • Kab Ooom identifies it as a Folding Boat.
  • Command word: "Booyacht!"
  • Command word: "Land Ho!"
  • Tay: "Don't say 'Land Ho!' before you get to land."
  • Orel identifies gems as having some remaining Truesight magic upon them.
  • Each has 1 charge
  • When looking through one, by holding them up to your eye, gain Truesight out to 10 feet
  • Telamtri identifies them as Carnelian (50gp)
  • Talks to Kab Ooom about them: Yep, they have Truesight, but there's no good way to enhance it without just casting True Seeing on them again.
  • Tay was seen as he was becoming a wolf, now there's a rumor that there is a werewolf in the area, come for their children.
  • The town is very on edge
  • Tay overheard this rumor while they were a rat in the tavern.
  • Rev was mostly being stealthy
  • Also went to the Keeper of Books to learn more about Waterdeep
  • Learns about it as a city of great commerce, guilds, and crime

    Mission Briefing

    Mallo Ree summons you all to the The Tipsy Dragon for a new job.   As you arrive, you notice a covered carriage with four hourses out front, the human driver checking the tack and gear.   As you make your way into the back room of the tavern, Mallo Ree is animated.   "This one's going to be great exposure for us!   "These strange ground quakes we've been getting? Waterdeep's gettin' 'em worse. When the earthquake struck the city two days ago, damage was limited, but a sinkhole opened up a fissure beneath an abandoned warehouse in Dock Ward. Two City Watch guards entered the fissure to investigate, but never came out. They’re now feared dead, and the City Watch has put out a call for assistance.   "We're going to answer that call.   "Here's the rub, though: they believe they've hired a team from Acquisitions Incorporated. I have it on good authority, though, that that team has been...detoured, and is unlikely to show up for several days. So, if we hustle, we can get in, do the job, collect the fee, and then reveal that it was Artifact Securement Services, and not that overblown Acquisitions Inc., that came through!"   His excitement carries him to his hooves and he thrusts his goblet into the air, golden liquid sloshing over the edge and onto the table.   "What do you say? Shall we make a name for ourselves?!"
      If the players ask about payment, Mallo Ree tells them it's being paid from the city's own coffers, so it'll be 25 gold each.   After the players agree to the job, Mallo Ree continues,  
    "I've hired transportation to get you to Waterdeep by tomorrow. When you get there, go immediately to the warehouse next to Jolly’s Lamp Emporium down by the docks. Tell the City Watch guards stationed there that you're the Acquisitions Inc. crew. Explore the fissure, learn the fate of the guards who went missing, and then come back to me with the signed City Watch papers confirming your completed work as well as the payment they give you.”
       

    Away We Go

    Once everyone is satisfied and ready to go, they can load up in the carriage and head out. The carriage speeds off towards Waterdeep with all haste. They ride all day, all night, and through the next morning, arriving at the gates of Waterdeep around midday.   It's a very gray, dreary day. There's a constant light rain.

    Maps and Poshuns

    A ramshackle stall set up along the street bears a sign that reads: “Maps and Poshuns.” Working the stall is a filthy but cheerful gnome urchin. Several pieces of parchment are on display in the stall, with six small ceramic pots placed next to them.
  • Tay buys a map and hires Jerr as a guide.
  • Tay does a medicine check on the potions and senses the Goodberry.
  • After a discount and some pressure, everyone except Tay buys a poshun.
  • Skeleton Crew

    A figure stands in the alleyway, its luminous eyes glowing beneath a dark hood. As the hood is pulled away to reveal a skeletal face, the figure unexpectedly speaks. “Your money or your life!”
  • Rev sneak attacks with a thrown dagger
  • Orel hits Jelayne, Undead Bandit Leader with Magic Missile and then has a portent of the strikes from Thugs 4 and 3, and is able to dodge both.
  • Clara takes Thug 1's arm clean off with her Great Axe.
  • Jelayne hits Rev with a shortbow bolt
  • Tay uses Entangle, sending vines shooting towards Jelayne and Thug 2, restraining Thug 2
  • Then wildshapes into a Giant Spider! and moves above Thug 4.
  • Rev slices into Thug 4
  • Orel catches Thug 4 with a bit of Frostbite
  • Thug 4, near death, turns and runs
  • Thug 2 fires at the spider, then leaves through one of the warehouse doors.
  • Jelayne: "This isn't the end of this. You'll be hearing from the Zhentarim!" And disappears around the corner.
  • Orel: "Drop your weapons or die!" Thug 3: "Fuck off!" Orel: "As you wish..." Firebolt to scorch him
  • Thug 3 (Frank), then lays down his sword, "Yeah, let's talk."
  • Rev searches him and finds 3gp, a dagger, and 4 phalanges.
  • Orel: "Why did you attack us?"
  • Frank: "We were just mugging you, thought you were gonna be easy out-of-towners."
  • They let Frank go.
  • Rev loots Thug 1 for 4 gold and a piece of parchment:
  • "Dockside" "Cobbler" "Flint" "Mercantile" "Jasper"  
  • Jerr shows back up.
  • Tay pays him to throw off any other group claiming to be Acquisitions Inc.
  • Leads them to Jolly's
