Greg's Mine

Greg"s Mine is located in a cave near Cratenga and was (supposedly) discovered by Greg when he was out searching for iron ore for Srek Nightshade.   The marking of it is on a rock near a withered tree outside Cratenga, a couple of hours outside of the village. An old dwarven rune has been carved there, which Greg read as "mine (though another translation might be mound). From here, the entrance to the cave can be reached by scaling down 20ft down the cliff and entering in a side passage. The inside seems to be a small cave with a pool of brackish water at the back, but there’s actually a much deeper caves system on the other side of the wall behind the pool, just a small swim away. On the other side is a large central looking chamber where a sort of violet fungus grows all around and offers some light (this was identified as Violet Creeper). This central room has some littered bones around, mostly seems to be of rats, small lizards and some jelly like parts. A large blind Cavern Lizard has made its nest here. It is old and blind because of an infection, though it can still smell and hear. It lurks and scans from the various crevaces. 3 tunnels seem to lead from this central room.   One has the sound of water dripping and moving: unexplored   One has the smell of fresh blood: unexplored     One smells old and damp:   This path leads down a winding tunnel to an open room with a large crevace in the middle, the bottom far down. The distance of the crevace is about 5m. Hanging on a root in the crevace they found an old and long rusted miner’s helmet (Spelunking Helmet), a name was carved on the inside (Polton Markenson). At the end of the room the tunnel once again narrows to only single file until they reach a fork.   The left smelled faintly of salt: unexplored   The right smelled of deep and old construction:   This side leads down and seems to have some long gone remnants of a mine shaft, eventually leading to what seems to be an iron ore vein. Somewhere near the vein was a passable fissure, that ends in a somewhat carved out room with a magnificent runic door at the end. Above it, it reads in dwarven runes “ Earth and Stone”, which is a religious hymn to honor the dead. Graardor sang the hymn and the door slid down, releasing a Golem, Stone Guardian that cried out “death to those who defile the tomb of Ragnar Stormhaven”. The entrance from which it came had a lever in the rock formation, pulling it revealed a staircase that lead down. However, at some point the stairs started to smooth down. The slide eventually leads to a sort of refuse pile.
