Bardonese Commonwealth

The Bardonese Empire, officially the Civitas Bardona or "Bardonese Commonwealth", is a country to the east of the Ekonic Ocean, and major world power of Erdezwei. Having been ruled by the same empress for the past 70 years, The Bardonese Empire plans to eventually bring the entirety of Erdezwei under its control. The official reasoning for this aggressive, expansionist policy is a desire to bring an end to conflict and war by bringing the entire world under one banner; in an ideology called Spoilism.

History

Before the era of Spoilism, there was the Grand Duchy of Bardona. A small, landlocked nation surrounded by six much more powerful neighbors. After years of diplomatic bullying by these six neighbors, the six of them dropped all pretenses and invaded. The plan was to overwhelm the little nation, break its power base, and then divvy the spoils between themselves. All because they could get away with it. They even managed to wipe out the royal family in their initial assault.
But no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
Under the leadership of a young, lionhearted colonel named Octavia Caina, the republic not only turned away their would-be conquerors, but began taking territory that hadn't been theirs at the beginning of the war. And then, in short, they kept going. And now they have the entire world in their sights.

Politics

"The Kringles are the kinds of bastards that would put a gun to your head, but paint a smiley face on the muzzle to make the robbery less stressful for you."
-Erica Perone, prominent Kamerian partisan   Officially, the Bardonese Empire Commonwealth refers to itself as a Spoilist Consular Republic. Principle authority is in the hands of the High Consul, who will send proposals for new laws to a Senate. If the senate rejects the proposal, the High Consul still has the power to go ahead with it anyway. But this power is used incredibly sparingly. Since every use must be paired with an extensive and costly public relations campaign to try and quell the inevitable outrage.

Military

Putting their heavy tax rates to use, the Bardonese Empire Commonwealth has the largest, most heavily spent on military of any nation on Erdezwei. The core of their doctrine is the ability to just completely crush any opposing military with sheer numbers. Where other nations may deploy a hundred or so soldiers, the Bardonese Vis Mundis will deploy two thousand. The Vis Aerae will blot out the sun with squadrons upon squadrons of Z-15 Vespa jet fighters, while strategically deploying smaller numbers of the state-of-the-art Z-36 Aquila stealth fighter, and pound the enemy's ground forces with the P-45 Corvus ground attack aircraft. The Vis Maris makes heavy use of smaller attack boats to compliment their larger fleets.
But the one weapon that leaves every other nation feeling truly hopeless against the Bardonese are the Compliance Engines; massive, flying weapons platforms that can single handedly level cities and military bases.

Economics

The Bardonese economy is almost entirely built around maintaining the military and bringing the Spoilist Vision to fruition. Citizens on most levels of society are taxed relentlessly when the Spoilists are attempting a new conquest acquisition; the populace kept from breaking by the promise of a massive reprieve and period of economic prosperity once the acquisition has been completed.

Culture

The culture of the Grand Duchy of Bardona could have been summarized as "A strict society with plenty of norms and rules, but nobody followed the rules anywhere near as strictly as they were expected to, and everyone knew everyone was fudging their obedience to the rules". The Spoilist regime condemns such arbitrary strictness and vows to create a more tolerant and free society. The elders of the Commonwealth see little difference.

Spoilism

Spoilism is the ideology at the heart of the empire commonwealth's actions; the great cause for which the apparatuses of the commonwealth move. It was made up as Caina went along to suit her wants emerged dynamically as the commonwealth moved towards its ultimate goal of ending conflict the world over. Spoilism takes its name from a speech High Consul Octavia Caina made a few years after the end of the conflict that gave rise to the commonwealth; in which she said that "the spoils of war shall be spent to bring an end to war itself".
For the individual, Spoilism calls for brotherhood, compassion, loyalty, and an eagerness to do one's part to bring the vision to life. Be that engaging the vision's enemies in war, or simply keeping food in the mouths of your fellows. Those who oppose Spoilism, and therefore stand in favor of disunity, violence, cruelty and greed, are known collectively as Noxists.

Attitudes Towards Reproductive matters

Mature Content - Sexual Themes
The Bardonese have a surprisingly casual, progressive attitude towards sex and sexuality. No one blinks at the idea of casual flings, kinks, or most anything that other cultures might consider taboo or deviant. However, there is a strong taboo against the use of contraceptive devices for the sake of preventing pregnancy. Their use for preventing the spread of venereal disease, however, is accepted and even encouraged.

This liberated, lax mindset is an expansion of a cultural quirk that existed within Bardonese culture for centuries before Spoilism. For centuries, if there was a case of wandering eyes within a married couple, it wasn't uncommon for a trium nocti ("Night of Three") to be arranged. Just one night where the extraneous subject of affections was invited into the bedroom to get it all out of everyone's system. It was considered rude to speak openly about such a thing when it happened, but there was no stigma against the act itself.

The second biggest expense of the Bardonese Empire Commonwealth is the massive state apparatus for raising children; be they orphans or children whose parents simply couldn't provide for them. These children are then raised in institutions called crescitoriums.

A child will be raised in a number of crescitoriums as they grow, since there are different institutions for different age groups. Starting with newborns to the age of two, and then in graduated age level institutions until they reach the age of twenty, at which point they're still given assistance in gaining their independence. Though these services will place a heavy emphasis on the option of joining the military.
