Erica Perone
"Martyrs? Moral victories? You don't win wars with those. You're going to live. You're going to fight. And Elohim damn you, you are going to win!" -Erica Perone, preventing yet another pointless suicide attackErica Perone is the leader of the partisan strike team NoxHound, and a prominent figure in the larger Kamerian Partisan movement. Under her leadership, NoxHound has engaged in countless attacks on Bardonese forces, saving lives and generally making life much for the kringles than it would have been otherwise.
Biography
As the daughter of a war hero, Markus Perone, Erica grew up with high expectations on her. At formal black-tie events, she was to be a proper young lady. In school, she was the be a straight As student. Outdoors, she was to get just as down and dirty as the boys. Her father was exceptional, and by Elohim, Erica was going to be a chip off the old block. For most of Erica's time growing up, she had absolutely no problem with this arrangement. Her father simply knew how capable she was and expected her to act like it, was her thought. At least, until the day of the acid attack.
In the summer between middle and high school, Erica was attacked by a separatist sympathizer who was none too fond of her father's deeds. The attacker had meant to splash Erica's entire face, but a combination of her strong reflexes and her two friends tackling the man prevented the full intended effects. Instead, the acid splashed from the bottom of her left eye down to the top of her right shoulder. To this day, Erica has compromised vision in her left eye.
While her father showed boundless compassion while Erica's physical wounds healed, Markus Perone made the fatal mistake of ignoring her psychological scars. As soon as the bandages were off, all the same pressures were back on Erica. After all, Markus couldn't "go soft on her" with the man she had to live up to. Erica's peers in her new, well-to-do private high school were also completely without sympathy. The taunting over her scars began almost immediately. And even on the occasion that she laid one of them out for it, it resulted in heavy consequences and threats of lawsuits from the relevant parents.
Erica was beyond giving a shit. Her grades plummeted and she began on a downward spiral of rebellion and punishment. Even today, shades of this part of her life can be seen from time to time in her reactions.
-Pulled out of the spiral by one of Markus' squadmates, Adler. He took her under his wing and honestly became a better father than Markus ever was to her.
-Encouraged to join the Kamerian Ranger Corps, and nailed the training by all measures even with the family name bringing harder training on her.
-Joined the squad being led by Adler, and had about two years as a peacetime ranger under her belt when the Cross Ekonic War broke out.
-Adler breaks up the squad, gives them all symbolic promotions to sergeant, and gives them a final order to spread out and lead the resistance movement everyone knew was coming.
-Yeah. No pressure
Personality
In all things she does, Erica is a driven and implacable woman. Her natural commanding presence has only been amplified by the training that came with joining the Kamerian Ranger Corps. Erica has a natural talent for taking a room of strangers and getting them not just following her, but following with enthusiasm and loyalty. But despite that, Impostor Syndrome follows her in everything she does and everywhere she goes. Plenty of pressure has been put on her with the outbreak of the Cross Ekonic War. As her renown grew, and as more and more people looked up to her as a leader and hero, Erica found the voice of doubt growing louder. But none would guess that, seeing her from the outside.
While she maintains the hard, stoic demeanor that came with her military training around others, behind closed doors Erica will loosen the proverbial belt and go almost all the way back to how she carried herself in highschool. Minus the eagerness to fight, at least. But to most people and the general public, Erica will project a firm, "Annoyed, but not with you" aura.
Appearance
Erica is a woman of average height, with the bronze colored skin and blonde hair common to the people native to Grenze. She maintains an athletic build that clearly demonstrates that she keeps up with the physical routines she drilled in with the Ranger Corps. But her most striking feature, besides her piercing green good eye, are the burn scars she suffered in the acid attack. They run from just below her left eye down her neck and terminate just below the collarbone. The acid damaged her left eye, resulting in a visual droop in the eyelid (though this is often covered by the tactical eyepatch she wears over it. The acid also gnarled the left corner of her mouth. There's similar scarring on the bottoms of both of her forearms from where Erica shielded herself.
