Kamerian Partisans
"The problem with countering [partisan] doctrine, mi Imperatrix, is that even if they had one, none of them would follow it."-Titus Lanius, Archlegate of the Vis Mundis forces in Kameria
"The kringles can't know what I'm doing if I don't know what I'm doing!"-Joel Maravalle, Kamerian Partisan "Kamerian Partisan" is a catch-all term for the myriad, decentralized paramilitary groups that arose in the wake of the Cross Ekonic War. Each cell acts as an entirely independent organization, only keeping tabs on one another when strictly necessary, and even then only information relevant to them. This ensures that even the cells that are broken up and interrogated are unable to jeopardize one another. Partisan cells can be as small as a single fireteam (4-8 members) or as large as a conventional battalion (membership in the low hundreds), though the latter is considerably rarer than the former.
Operating Principles
Guerilla warfare is the heart and soul of partisan operations. After the initial invasion, those who didn't throw themselves into fruitless, suicidal last stands saw the futility in trying to engage the Spoilists in conventional warfare. Many will hold jobs and try and maintain the facade of a normal, compliant life. Others, who have the means to disappear from the grid and into the vast wildlands of Kameria, do so. Both keep to the shadows, emerging only to make life harder for their occupiers (and often to end the lives of a few).In order to prevent the enemy from simply rounding up, incarcerating or executing random civilians in retaliation strikes, most will wear a pair black brassards on their forearms. The brassard extends from just above the elbow and rises to just below the shoulder, tapering into a rectangular protrusion where various embroidered patches are worn. These patches may indicate which partisan cell the wearer is affiliated with, a rank (in larger partisan cells), or a role in their squad. Or they may simply be a humorous morale patch.
"Really, wearing the brassards is like wearing the words "Over here! I'm the one you want. Come and get it, motherfucker!"-Anonymous partisan, speaking with a war correspondent
Specialties, Synergy, and Eccentricity
Partisan cells often have a certain kind or aspect of warfare that they specialize in. For instance, a fireteam-sized partisan cell operating in a metropolitan area may come to be well known for their construction and deployment of traps against the enemy, making movement of vehicles more dangerous. Or they may become exceptionally adept at urban sharpshooting and carry out assassinations. Cells in less developed areas may instead specialize in camouflage or vehicular warfare. Larger or better funded partisan cells might specialize in fielding equipment such as power armor or captured/salvaged tanks. A handful even manage to get aircraft into the sky.Along with specializations, individual partisan cells will often develop their own internal culture, replete with in-jokes and strange traditions completely incomprehensible to those outside of the given partisan cell. Many of them also adopt a consistent theming to their tactics, equipment and and even communications. Common themings are inspired by historical figures and military units. Though theming from popular media is also common.
For instance the Corsairs, a partisan cell dedicated to disrupting Bardonese maritime operations, wear a skull and crossbones on their brassards, tend to wear long coats and tricornered hats and bandanas, and will often talk among one another and to the enemy in gravely voices with archaic terminology. All of this in emulation of the pirates that once terrorized trade on the Ekonic Ocean. And the theming of the urban information warfare cell known as The Black Parade bears more than passing resemblance to the aesthetics of a punk rock concept album that came out a decade or so before the war broke out.
"Sployalist" Partisan Cells
There also exist organizations, however rare, who use the same tactics but fight in support of the Bardonese and the Spoilist Vision. Occasionally these "Sployalist" partisan cells will catch the attention of the local custode, and that custode will try to pull strings for their sake. It's not unheard of for these groups to be gifted surplus equipment from the regular Bardonese forces. For instance, a crate of A25 Scipio rifles.Dark Partisan Cells
"Dark Partisan" is a fairly subjective term for partisans and partisan cells that use the same tactics as others, but more for personal gain than ideological devotion to the overall cause. They'll often become just as much of a danger to other Kamerians as they are the occupiers.Notable Partisan Cells
A few of the more notable partisan cells include:The Black Parade - A cell with multiple independent chapters found almost entirely within Kameria's major cities. Known primarily for engaging in information warfare and a focus on memorializing/avenging the victims of Spoilist aggression.
The Bogatyrs - A partisan cell comprising of Nordostillan expats. Many of which were simply Nordostillan youths who were well used to causing trouble for authority, and simply decided they'd go make trouble somewhere their troublemaking would be wanted.
The Dukesmen - Partisan cell consisting of Bardonese expats/refugees who had been living in Kameria before the war broke out. As well as mainland Bardons who sympathize with the kamerian/antispoilist cause. Their name alludes to the Grand Duchy of Bardona; the state that preceded the spoilist regime.
The Lambda Corps - A platoon sized partisan cell that specializes in breaking into enemy installations. They wield crowbars and compact submachine guns as their signature weapons.
NoxHound - A strike team sized partisan cell led by Erica Perone; a former Kamerian Ranger. Noxhound has found itself in the thick of major movements of the war time and again.
The Winged Hussars - A company-strength cell that specializes in motor cavalry and fast attack. Their forces include ATV-mounted dragoons and Tranks.
