Szala
To the far east is Szala, a land of dense jungles surrounding immense red mesas. Many of the mesas are full of complex networks of caves that the Szalan people use for homes. Szala had a tense allegiance with the Empire for many years, but after the Dragonborn war, came under Korum sovereignty. The Szalan Tunnel Wraiths, as they were named in common tongue, were honored Empire-wide for their role in slowing down the warring Dragonborn giving the Empire’s Legionnaires much needed time to assemble and march on. Szalan also refers to the language spoken commonly in the region, though there are two main subsets: Old Szalan and New Szalan.
Both Old and New Szalan speakers in Szala use a variety of name formats. Names are a string of different name parts, sometimes names of parents, place of birth, place of home, given names, family names, and village names, but whatever the combination, the various meanings are uniquely important to the individual and meant for them to choose a shorter, "common" name, used casually. The People of Szala have long rejected the Noble House and Dynast House structure of the Empire, instead divided mostly into tribes, though there is no formal structure. Nevertheless, the Empire recognizes the tribe Tanuk Ampon no less than a Dynast House.
