Ilios
Demographics
The inhabitants of Ilios tend to live a comfortable lifestyle, and poverty is practically unheard of, since many follow Helios' teachings that no mortal is above another.
Almost one third of the population of Ilios are nymphs who originally acted as nature spirits but instead chose to live more civilized lives. The mortals and nymphs within Ilios intermingle in both industry and personal lives, many forging bonds of friendship and even romance with each other.
Many of the inhabitants of Ilios work at the honey farms and the rum distilleries found on the island. Many also find jobs working at the hotels made for tourists and some become hunters. Many also make a living by trading their goods with the rest of the Authenian Republic, particularly with the city of Kardiá.
Government
The government in Ilios has a medium tax rate, and uses their budget to educate their citizens, keep the city's security well funded and to ensure that the Poseiatic seas remain safe for oceanic trade. They also use part of that budget to help maintain both the AAC bestiary research base and the temple of Helios.
Defences
The Order of Helios has its primary temple in Ilios, and they are sworn to protect Rhodesseum with their lives. Each Paladin of Helios is a powerful force of both divine and martial strength.
Ilios has several watchtowers in place, capable of spotting any threats coming from either the island or the sea.
The city guards of Ilios, while not members of the Order of Helios, do revere and worship the sun-god. Due to their worship, their blades glow with a beautiful, radiant and golden light, which inflicts divine wounds upon their targets.
Industry & Trade
The destilling and manufacturing of rum is one of the most profitable trades on Ilios, as they have access to sugar and honey few places in the Authenian Republic do.
Hunting the boar of Rhodesseum has become a professional occupation for many, as both their meat and their hides are in high demand, both with fellow locals, and with travelling merchants from the mainland of Eregost.
The exotic fruits found on Rhodesseum are incredibly valuable to mainlanders, as many of the fruits, such as mangos and passion fruits, can only be found in few other places on Eregost and all of these locations are far more dangerous than Rhodesseum.
Bee farming is quite popular in Rhodesseum, as honey is used in the production of soaps, honey rum, mead, and medicines. And the beeswax is used to make candles and for sealing envelops.
Infrastructure
Ilios has a large shipping port, used to import and export goods. This port is also occasionally used as a repair station for the Authenian navy.
Guilds and Factions
The Order of Helios has its primary temple within Ilios, and all are welcome with its public gardens, and the shine of Helios within the temple. The inner chambers, however, are not accessible to the public.
The AAC has a small bestiary research base in Ilios. Those there study the anatomy of dangerous creatures, focusing on those of supernatural origin. Many of the researchers there are local lake nymphs, some of whom are subjects for indepth study themselves.
History
After the defeat of the Titans, Zeus gave Helios many gifts as a thanks for his neutrality. One of these gifts was the island of Rhodesseum. Helios protected and cared for the island, much to the awe and admiration of the lake nymphs who lived there. Very soon, they started to worship the Sun-Titan as a noble protector, and slowly started to adopt a more urban lifestyle, eventually leading to the creation of the city of Ilios.
After Ancient Authenian adventurers found Rhodesseum, many were enchanted by the beauty of the nymphs and many more were enchanted by the exotic wildlife and warm weather. Many of the adventurers decided to stay on Rhodesseum, and integrated themselves into Ilios' society.
