Alder

A flowering, deciduous tree belonging to the birch family. Alder are abundant on the island of Nemel, and have become integral to the Nemeli daily life.
The wood was used to construct nearly all of the Piertown section of Portalder. It contains tannin for leather tanning, is used to smoke much of the fish catch, red dye is distilled from the outer bark and yellow from the inner, the bark also contains an anti-inflammatory, and the wood is exceptional for string instruments and flutes.
