Siege Tower

The siege tower is a piece of war machinery that is used when trying to get soldiers over a barricade, usually a wall, that is in the way of the soldier's progress. The idea of the siege tower is essentially to have a tall, armoured, moving platform that is able to get troupes up to a higher level safely. Essentially a travelling watch tower, with a drawbridge on the upper floors that can drop down to allow access to an enemies wall.   The towers are usually rectangular in shape with 4 or more wheels at the base with at least two levels on the inside, often more. Ladders are on the inside to allow soldiers to easily scale the tower to get to the upper levels, to allow them access to the enemy's wall.   Due to the tower's large size, it is normally a top priority for the defending army to target the tower first. As a result, there are sometimes arrow slits at the front and sides of the tower to allow archers to defend the tower as it approaches it's target. Once on the wall, it is usually spear-men followed by swordsmen that fallout of the tower and onto the enemy wall.
