Goldfire Forge

I hope you understand the lengths to which I am willing to trust you, Lord Gloomwing. This venture has the potential to put both of our names in history, and in a way we could be proud of. It also has the potential to fall into obscurity for being yet another well-prepared failure. Should that happen, well, I believe I'll want my investment back.
— Lady Sezari of Ironholme
As Pendelholm developed, and its rulers developed alliances amidst others, dwarves from Gilvonnaie established a large forge and foundry in the hills to the north of the small city. Once the first test batches of steel were completed, Ammet Goldfire began to turn their attention to more exotic metals: mithril and adamantine. Within a year, the forgemaster developed a method for crafting the notoriously-difficult adamantite ore into workable metal. Thus Goldfire Forge made a name for itself as the only place within the borders of the Empire one could acquire mithril, not to mention a place to acquire adamantine.

Industry & Trade

Ammet Goldfire, and by extension their backer Lady Sezari, has put a great deal of blood, sweat, and gold into making Goldfire Forge a successful and productive settlement. Its primary industry is in metalcraft, producing alloys of any type a customer requests. The price varies, naturally, and not all metallic alloys are 'on the market'. Some are only offered to those who are both 'in the know', and can pay exorbitant prices for their goods. For a price, Ammet's people will produce dwarven steel or mithril, to the customers' specifications. For an even greater price, Goldfire Forge will bestow the gift of adamantine goods. Normal operation of the "outer forges" produces most simple goods such as plowshares, chains, and other things normally needed by villages and cities. The "inner forge" is reserved solely for orders which require mithril or adamantine goods, as it is lit by pure elemental flame.

Adventurers who have what Ammet calls "more money than sense", as well as a valid license, usually place orders for high-quality armor. From time to time, a group leader will request adamantine - until the prices are quoted to them. So far, none have been willing to offer up the riches to lead the Forge to try creating it. More popular are arms and armor made of dwarven steel, as Ammet's smiths are one of the few who are willing to make such for Imperial citizens. Those who are not citizens of either Gilvonnaie or Rhyliss are turned away when requesting the higher-grade alloys, and attempts to order adamantine are met with laughter and denial of it being possible.

As a settlement revolving around metalcrafts, a great deal of supplies are always arriving from the north or from elsewhere in the valley. Wood and coal for the forges arrives from the valley, as well as stone for new construction or repairs. Various ores are imported across the border, from three to five times a year. Traders who come through the Empire from the south often trade fine silk and hides to be used in the construction of mail, or for new protective gear.

History

If you can do it... Ammet, we've been looking for someone to work the adamantite for a while now. If it turns out you can do it, I'll ensure you get enough raw material to cover orders. Not for free, mind you. I expect, though, you'll get plenty of people willing to sell their firstborn to you for a chance at owning adamantine. Yes, yes, that was just a figure of speech.
— Lord 'Shadow'
During the courses of their adventures, Lord Restun Gloomwing and his companions traveled to Ironholme in an attempt to discover a means of working orichalcum and adamantite ore they had acquired. While the ruler of the city was curious about the potential, she balked at the idea of building a forge inside her domain which could harness a hot enough flame to - in theory - produce results. It took some time before her metalsmiths developed a potential method, and they nominated Ammet Goldfire to act as their agent. At Pendelholm, Ammet unveiled the theories and the design of the forge, explaining his required materials before they could begin to pursue the theories in earnest. Lord Thalamar Stonefist assisted in acquiring enough assistants and stonemasons to begin construction, quarrying the stone from a spot in the hills near Pendelholm.

Within the space of one year, the construction had been finished and the forges lit. Lord Thelun Arkady set up a conjuring circle to draw pure elemental fire directly to one forge set aside for the purposes of experimentation. By the end of that year, Ammet's people delivered the proof of their success: an adamantine axe which proved capable enough. Negotiations were made with other dwarven clanhalls across the Gilvonnaie border, and soon Goldfire Forge was producing mithril goods as well. The experiments to work orichalcum, unfortunately, remained a goal out of reach for the time being. Imperial agents arrived to request taxes for the business operating across the border, and were directed to discuss the matter with Lord Gloomwing once he returned to Pendelholm. Ammet was quite satisfied as arrangements were made to pay those taxes to Pendelholm's rulers, and those in turn would be sent to Eva Valoria along with the other taxes for the year. After all, it cut down on the nuisances and distractions of getting to work...
