Restun Gloomwing
Heir of Ruari's Legacy
"Stand against me, and you will be brushed aside. Stand with me, and you will know victory."One of the founders of Pendelholm, Restun Gloomwing is a dragonkin warrior who claims to be the last heir of Ruari Auricama. He registered with his companions as an adventurer within the Empire, and currently serves as ruler of Pendelholm. Most know him in this fashion, rather than knowing him personally. Among those who have met the dragonkin, they speak of him being "remarkably intense" and prone to rash action. He also has an appreciation for collecting various objects from his travels, and there is an entire chamber in Pendelholm devoted to keeping them stored.
History
Restun Gloomwing was born to a mother he never got to know, and swiftly taken by Ruari Auricama to be raised. This meant being kept close to the dragon, moving often as Ruari's machinations spanned across most of Erisdaire. Despite this, the dragon made honest efforts to provide anything desired or needed by his child. Most of Restun's life before parting from his father is known only to himself, and he hasn't seen fit yet to speak on what happened. It is known he was active on the Fireshard Islands, helping the Sebilian Trade Partnership chart out valuable ore veins and deposits. After leaving the islands, Restun was inducted into the Imperial Surveyors and served with them for one year. This service started within the eastern reaches of the Rhyliss Empire and moved across the other provinces steadily. After this year of service, he returned to Pendelholm and took over ruling it with his traveling companions. They would continue to adventure abroad, which meant there were a number of incidents not necessarily kept on record. Among the known adventures is a journey into the east near the Broken Spine mountains, though the reasons remain unknown.
Campaign: Heirs of Ortega
Show spoiler
After meeting up with his companions and retrieving the Blood of the Dragon, Restun became charged with investigating the Lost Empire of Ortega. Traveling abroad in search of clues led the adventurers to one ruin after another, steadily dismantling the ancient wards and silencing enchantments which remained active long after the mystics had gone. The Well of Mists and Silver Cascade were destroyed, severing their effects on ley lines and terminating their influence on Erisdaire.
After the destruction of the Great Forge of Ravali, Restun was approached by representatives of Ruari's Chosen and received their help searching out the remaining parts of Ortega's ruins. This also coincided with a change in Restun's focus, gathering up objects from Ruari's old lair and trying to learn more about what inheritance he has taken charge of. There were further explorations into the Sebilian jungle, to Firos where the Gates of Dawn were destroyed, and then to an uncharted island out in the western ocean where the last remnants of Validnay could be found.
Returning from that experience, most of the instability being caused by Ortegan relics tapping into the ley lines had ceased. And Restun's demeanor had changed even further, becoming much more interested in improving Pendelholm with alliances to various other groups. Adventuring began to take less of his attention, and Ruari's Chosen were much more active in the valley near Pendelholm. Others of the group likewise began to pursue their own goals, though they would travel abroad a few times a year.
The truth of the matter has not been ascertained to anyone in the party, and only divine beings who serve Pelaris have realized the truth: the fragment of Ruari's soul which was implanted in the Blood of the Dragon has merged into Restun's soul and begun recreating the dragonkin into little more than a host for the soul fragment. What this means for Restun is unknown, as this sort of magic has not been successfully completed before.
