Stanishal Island

The Hollow Island

In the southern ocean, storms are often very violent and can destroy ships with little effort. To combat this, many smaller islands were outfitted with docks where the ships could be sheltered and avoid the worst potential damages. Pirates had their own havens, hidden from Imperial ships and Myrisian Seahunters. Among these was a simple place known in their journals as "the Hollow Island", never referred to by the name used on sea charts: Stanishal Island. The island itself appears as a simple rock in the ocean with some green growth around it, but no trees. This makes it unsuitable for any sort of inhabitation, and so it often goes unnoticed on maps which aren't used for navigation. However, a small cavern is just large enough for most ships to enter a hollow inside the island. Once inside, there are places to moor a ship to safely ride out storms. It is expected this place will be a temporary place to stay, so there are no real buildings within the cavern - only the ships themselves.

During the Age of Bloody Seas, Stanishal Island was used for more than shelter from the storms, and its use had not been discovered until long after that series of conflicts ended. There are sometimes talks about whether or not to truly make it a viable stopover for maintenance, but this is always hampered by one simple fact: the interior cavern is not that large. In order to build the facilities needed, there would be only enough room for at most two smaller ships as opposed to a half-dozen with careful placement.

Currently, the island is used by traveling ships using trade routes from the Fireshard Islands to Sevilan Island. The Trade Partnership has few reasons not to use such a shelter, and there are sometimes vessels docked within the cavern to offer resupply of fresh water and rations to ships making the long journey.
