Festival of Convocation
The Order of the Amethyst is an honorable, transglobal organization led by Aleithilithos, the amethyst Thane of Saridor. In general, the order seeks arcane knowledge, but more particularly, knowledge about and power over the physical laws such as gravity, which they love to demonstrate. The members of the order are called Purple Knights and pursue a vast array of purposes across many worlds.
In the world of Erüin, and in particular, the region known as Terria, there are many sites and focal points of the order. One such location is the Monastery of the Purple Horn. The monastery is found in the far northeastern reaches of Terria known informally as the two rivers. One of these is the Miki River, and about two days journey up this river is a peaceful valley overlooked by the small monastery. This particular monastery studies and trains in scholarly and martial disciplines, but focuses primarily on training and developing psionic powers. As one advances at the monastery, they may take on leadership and training roles as a Cordon, and Master Cordon, while the head of the monastery is the Suzerain, currently held by a half-dragon named Glithiur.
Each year the monastery holds an annual convocation to present the new Purple Knight. As a means to recruit, and for public relations reasons, they invite any who might be interested. Over the years this convocation has grown into a large celebration attended by large numbers of people. For three days prior to the convocation, crowds move among booths, compete in friendly competitions, meet the Purple Knights, show off their crafts, buy, sell, eat, drink, sing, dance, hold weddings, recruit apprentices, hold councils, review the past, plan for the future, and celebrate in every way they know how. Many of the merchants have been transporting goods up the Miki River or the monastery road and setting up their booths for several days prior.
The celebration is not the largest in Terria, but it is a good place to do business because everything is overseen by the Purple Knight. The knights are known for their fairness but intolerance of untoward behavior such as pickpocketing and fraudulent sales, and, around the monastery, their powers of observation and investigation are almost absolute. It is rumored that no theft has ever gone unresolved and no deception has ever gone unpenetrated during the festival. By the end of the convocation, many 'mischievous' people end up chained to one of the many large standing stones in the great clearing where the festival and convocation are held. Two days following the convocation, after allowing the 'honest folk' to depart, all of the 'delinquents' are released. If they return in subsequent years, previous offenders are watched closely, and repeat offenses are rare.
