Skarabaus

Skarabaus (scare-ub-ous) is a quasi-mythical figure. There are stories about him that stretch back through the ages, widely believed by never proven. He is said to be from a different world, perhaps the Fey Wild or the Abyss. Others say he has achieved god-like status. He has the power to alter reality around him in ways that even the most trained arcane and divine casters struggle to replicate. He is said to change shape as easily as a person changes clothes and can warp the perception of others around him. While the stories vary wildly, most agree that his abilities are a mixture of illusion creation and reality alteration, causing those around him to question what is indeed real. Stories of how a person may contact him vary. Some say that he will show himself in mirrors, others say that tears falling into still water can summon him.   They say that to even speak his name draws him to a person. He appears to the desperate and offers them a way to escape their situation. He will frequently ask for very little in return, sometimes nothing. He will always complete his end of the agreement, in much the same way a hurricane will blow out a candle. He will not take a deal if the person tries to put too many restrictions on his methods, telling them to come back when they are actually willing to negotiate. Once a bargain has been struck the deal cannot be undone without Scarab agreeing, which he will not do willingly. There are stories of people defeating him, and him returning sanity to the chaos he caused, but not without great difficulty. He hasn't been known to seek revenge against these people. Some say that this is evidence that his actions are bound by the confines of the contracts that he makes with mortals. Others say it is proof that these stories are bullshit created to scare children.
