Nergal

Nergal is a god associated with death, darkness and the undead.
Despite harbouring a desire to eradicate all life, Nergal is worshipped by many death cults and is often honoured before battles. He is believed to be one of the oldest gods: an ancient entity denied dominion when positive energy won out over negative energy in the formation of the material plane.
Nergal is sometimes referred to as the 'Lord of Shadows', 'Death' or the 'Grim Reaper'.

Nergal's primary domains are Darkness, Death, Evil and War. His subdomains are Loss, Smoke and Undead.

Holy Books & Codes

Nergal's holy book is called the Ode to Oblivion. It is an oddly discordant mixture of nihilistic poetry and 'proofs' of the dominance of negative energy written in strange eldritch mathematics.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Nergal's most common symbol is a red-eyed skull, though he is strongly associated with his favoured weapon - the scythe - and sacred animal, the panther.
In traditional depictions, Nergal appears as a skeletal figure cloaked in black smoke.
His mystic card is Death, and his holy number is 13.

Tenets of Faith

Followers of Nergal believe that life is an anomaly: a reckless experiment perpetrated by indulgent gods. It should be extinguished on a grand scale.
Random murder and suicide are ineffective in annihilating all life. Nergal's most devoted followers instead try to instigate wars, disasters, and cosmological cataclysms.

Holidays

The Nergahane, a festival of the dead taking place on Yoraster the 13th, is named after Nergal.
On the day of the Nergahane, offerings are made to the spirits. At night, all citizens place wreaths on their doors to ward off the Nergavexi - or angry dead. Babies born on Nergahane are given silver bracelets of Aetea to protect them, as they are deemed particularly vulnerable to corruptive forces.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Nergal desires an end to all life in the universe. More specifically, he wants to infuse the entire universe with negative energy - the fundamental force of death that predates creation.
