Murkwood Thieves Guild

The Murkwood Theives Guild is the largest and most expansive theives guild on the continent of Estellia. Operating within the Murkwood State, it moves contraband and valuables through the country and passes them to other guilds operating in seperate parts of the continent.

Structure

The guild is headed by a single person, who frequently picks their own title. The current title is "Captain" held by Mather Jones. From here, the head will have a right-hand man or chief recruiter. They act as the main organiser for the guild, giving out jobs and ensuring that members are kept in line. Below him are the many local theive group leaders, known as "fixers". These fixers give jobs to the grunts of the guild, and hire outside help when needed.

Culture

The guild is known for being incredibly well known within the community of the Murkwood. It is frequently said that the guild are the backbone of the murkwood economy, and people accept this as the price to pay for living in such a drab place. The guild themselves are much less harsh than others across the continent, with executions and violence being a much rarer occurance than one would expect. However, punishments are dealt out and a culture of intimidation is used to coerce those outside of the guild into working with them.   Since their work in saving the murkwood's children from the coven, the guild has become even more respected in a positive light. The effect of this is yet to be seen, but with the government of the Murkwood being so poorly thought of, some think that the Thieves guild could take more of an official role in the running of the Murkwood.

History

With the rough nature of the murkwood making it difficult for many to make a living, many people turned to crime to survive. This drew the eyes of professional criminals who saw the untamed wilderness of the Murkwood as a perfect area for smuggling goods into the centre and west of Estellia. Over its history the guild has grown massivly, quickly becoming very wealthy. With that money being put back into the economy of the murkwood, the local officials simply looked away from any illegal wrong-doings and let the guild operate as usual.
