Voloris
History and Influence
Orginally created in 594, Voloris was originally a city stuck to the ground just like all the others. In 601; however, it took flight. It is not recorded how exactly Voloris took flight, or the source of its magic. In order to keep Voloris safe, only authorized individuals can access the information on Voloris' source of power, that way few know how to disable it. It is common knowledge that Voloris has a far-reaching Antipathy field that repels creatures who are primarily evil. Along with this, it suppresses the inner nature of evil creatures who are kept in it's range for a long period of time. This field is what give Voloris the title "City of peace". Along with this, Voloris has acted as an international peace keeping force intended to prevent war from breaking out in the major countries. Although Voloris' military is small in number, the antipathy field requires Voloris to make a constant circle around the edges of Lethreya in order to reach each city. Voloris has made it well known declaring war on another country would not only bring the highguard to the defender, but they'd also loses the protection of the antipathy field.Military
The Voloris military is lead directly by the supreme sovereign. Directly under the sovereign is the five high commanders. The High Commanders ride wyvern's and are considered some of the most skilled warriors alive. Each Commander gives leadership to 20 Voloris Highguards, who each ride Griffons. This makes a total of 100 Highguards, which is a constant number that does not change. These highguards are tasked with tracking down any evil creature that shows any kind of suppression to the antipathy field, lurking typically just outside its more powerful range of influence. Highguards also go through a trial in Elsewhere in order to reach their rank, which is where most gain the experience to fight. Under the Highguard are the Lowguard. There is no constant number of lowguard, but normally there is a few hundred. This is the rank given after a recruit has gone through his training period. Often a Highguard will be followed by lowguards; however, Voloris will not allow lowguards to go on any mission that is believed to be difficult.Towers and Temple
The Temple of Voloris represents every faith of Esterel, and does not contain any idols in the primary building, although most clergy bring their own smaller idols for their personal quarters. This diversity is caused by voloris being made up of people of all races and countries. The Temple contains two chambers, the chamber of life and the chamber of death. The chamber of life purpose is to work as a place of healing for Volorians, along with studying curses in order to remove them. The chamber of death works as a graveyard for the military, ensure their bodies cannot be risen from the dead or tempered with. They also focus on the destruction of the undead. Each chamber has a high Priest, but every member of clergy below that are the same rank. The Towers of Voloris is devoted to the arcane. The Towers of Voloris are made up of a series of smaller towers that connect to a larger tower. Each smaller tower represents a different school of magic, which each have an archmagis that is a master of that school of magic. Only one wizard is above the archmagis, along with a high mage that works as the leader of the tower. Under the archmagis are the mages, and below them are apprentices.Festival of Voloris
The Festival of Voloris is held once a year, each year in a different location. This event celebrates the day Voloris ascended into the air and is attended by members of each country to join the activities. Voloris holds many events and competitions, most of which have large prizes of gold. One of these competitions is also how Voloris recruits lowguards. The campaign will begin at the current festival of Voloris in Dewwatch. Your character may be there as a result of being a low-ranking member of the towers, temple or military, because they want to compete to join Voloris, compete for money, out of a desire to interact with the celebrations, or because they just happen to live there currently. It could be for any of these reasons, or one you've decided on yourself.
