Steel Cliffs

The Steel Cliffs are home to the Stilans and remains as one of the few Free Regions of Estya.

Geography

The Steel Cliffs are giant, 100-foot tall cliffs (30.5m) made from the only naturally-occuring steel in Estya. The cliffs are nestled against the coast, and are cut off from fresh water, forcing its inhabitants to be creative with their survival techniques. The coast and moist, salty air also requires Stilans to mine into the cliffsides in order to fine steel that hasn't been blemished or oxidized.

Localized Phenomena

One of the primary caveats with living along a metal cliffside is the frequency of electric storms that are stirred up off the coast and move inland. Lightning frequently strikes the cliffs and the city built into them, making the location even more dangerous than many already consider it.

Natural Resources

For the Stilans the Cliffs serve as their primary resource both for construction and crafting but also for exports. While the cliffs themselves are made from low-carbon steel, the Stilans have found methods of steel production that allows them to take low-carbon steel and add carbon to it until it suits their needs.

Tourism

There is debate about whether the Steel Cliffs are more of less beautiful than the pristine quartz cliffside of Disciple's Drop, but fewer tourists visit the Steel Cliffs due to the hot and damp climate. While not rivaling Hell's Breach in temperature, the Steel Cliffs still top the Silver Sands, reaching temperatures upwards of 600°F (315.5°C).
