Inquisition

The inquisitors are a group of people that specialize in hunting those who practice magic and those who use magic for the wrong ends as viewed by the inquisition. They have gained bad notoriety from a few fanatics that have really damaged the reputation of the entire organization, mages and those who love them often find themselves fighting against this group of people who have had horrible experiences and have suffered at the hands of those with magic.

Structure

The inquisition carries a similar structure as the militaries across Etharis, the top is the knight commander the most battle tested and most adept at dealing with magic. Their duties are to make sure that the sects of inquisitors are running properly while also being the head of the guard within the capital city that their HQ is located in. Each sect or headquarters has their own knight commander but the one in charge within the capital is the head one that commands all the other knight commanders. 

Below the knight commanders are the lieutenants which handle the more day to day tasks within the order and typically are always accompanying the knight commander. They are the ones who talk to the other knights and give them their orders. 

At the bottom are the regular knights and recruits and they are the ones that people see wandering around the streets or patrolling or the bulk of the forces on missions. Easily the most numerous of the groups and the knights only have to make sure to report to their commanding officer for their assigned missions while the recruits mainly just train under a knight before they go through their test before the knight commander and the lieutenants.

Culture

Most inquisitors stand behind the values that are preached within the order, which used to be more about public service and defending the masses from those who abuse the gift of magic or have been harmed by any magical affects. As time passed and more death and destruction was caused by the forces of magic the order took a more hard stance against magic eventually leading to those who were promoted being completely against magic which led to percecution and eventually it led to many deaths of those who tried to protect their friends and family that had magic. While not all of the inquisitors share this view the ones that do have the louder voices and the ones that don't are simply trying to keep their paying job for their own families.

Assets

The inquisitors have stores of gold, weapons, and even have one of the largest standing armies within Etharis. They are restrictive with who has access to these resources and even more stingy when it comes to using those resources. Different sects are trying to make use of these resources but typically have to go around the higher ups because of how little they like to spend. The inquisition also keeps tabs on most of the mages in the area or at least the powerful ones, they know where all of the great healers are in the land and sometimes call on them to help with disease or injury but most of the time its for inquisitors mainly.
