Arnin
Birthplace of the Republic
To a trader, there is few locations that can match the glory of Arnin. From a small town to one of the most vital locations in Evantian, it's likely everyone with even a small amount of luxury in their life has got it from Arnin's manufactories. To a trader, there is opertunities for both import and export, however this is difficult without joining an official trading guild. For visitors, Arnin is a simple but beatiful city where the services are great, the buildings are well-kept, and the sites amazing.Henry Norwick, Travellers Guide to Evantian, Press of Wien, Wien, 1705.
Demographics
Most of the population are either working in manufactories as workers, or on the seas as traders. Most residents of the city are human Nordmen, with more traders established in the city, while the majorty are also Nordmen, tend to be more vaired. Generally a small number of both landed elite and traders/manufacturers make up the more wealthy, and have much more wealth than the more middle class traders/manufacturers and works. However these lower wealth citizens tend to have more wealth than an their counterparts in other areas of the Mark.
Government
The mayor of Arnin is elected alongside the Senate, and manages the city on behalf of the Mark. As with all of the Mark, most laws come from the Senate, however in Arnin's case, many laws are placed specifically on the behalf of the city, mostly on the topic of trade. As with the Mark, the general rule is that all people are given rights, however breaking the law renouced these rights. Everyman in Arnin, from Fylkirate to a worker, is expected to pay tax to help the city, as no tax is placed on traded items.
Defences
The walls of Arnin are simple, but well designed wooden walls, with Arnin Hill having a stronger stone wall to serve as a possible last line of defense. However, due to the nature of Norge and the Mark, the strongest defenses are seaward, with a large fortifcation system protecting the coastline and docks from attack, the Republica Arnin Tower being the most famous part of these defenses.
Industry & Trade
Arnin lives up to it's artisanal culture with many manufactories operating in Arnin, forming the bedrock of the economy, many people in Arnin either work directly for these manufactories or a service required for the manufactories or their workers. This makes Arnin one of the largest importers of raw materials and exporters, and as a result one of the largest trade locations in Eturia, the only item not made in Arnin is Heavenly Steel.
Infrastructure
Arnin boasts a simple, but effective sewer system, well kept cobble roads, large bridges across the Televast and watermills in the River to help run the manufactories. However the biggest infrastructure in Arnin is the massive docks, these docks spread across the coast of Arnin, but centre in the small bay at the mouth of the Televast, near Arnin Hill, which boasts the military shipyards of Arnin.
Assets
Arnin Docks, manufactories, Mark navy, numerous stores.
Guilds and Factions
Being the artisanal capital of Evantian, possibly even Eturia as a whole, almost every guild can be found in the city. Beyond these guilds, the Mark Guard operate as law enforcement for Arnin like the rest of the Mark. The government of the Mark is also located in Arnin, along with the many trader groups, the largest being Marciatic Alliance of Dithmarburg.
History
The location of Arnin, at the mouth of the Televest has been inhabited since time immemorial. In the days of the Kingdom of Norge, Arnin was a small town in the west, at the time a rather ignored region of Norge. After the Isthmus Incident, and during the the Period of Chaos, many fled into the less populated areas of Norge as the seas over-ran the larger regions. With many ending up in Arnin, the many people formed the Republica Arnin to try and reform the remaining lands of Norge. After much toil, the Mark was formed with it's capital located in the home of the uprising, Arnin. Since then, the city has grown to be an economic powerhouse on the world stage due to the Mark's artisan culture and trade.
Architecture
Almost every building is some form of longhouse, with older buildings being made almost entirely of wood while newer construction has more stone in it. The main city wall is a wooden wall with stone bracing. Most buildings feature stained glass windows with window gardens, or large upstair windows matching the longhouse roofs.
Geography
The central feature of Arnin is Arnin Hill, location of the Government of both Arnin and the Mark. The hill is mostly on a small peninsula, mostly cut off on the north side by the Televest River. The rest of the city is mostly plains around this location but small islands on the coast and small hills are present.
Natural Resources
While some farmland, timber, and fishing can be done in and around Arnin, these are not important to Arnin in modern days.
