The world is old, the days of fantasy kingdoms and mythical creatures have long since passed. The world now teems with new magic, mastered and controlled by mortal hands, and ruled by Immortal beings who carry the spark of divinity that they earned in great trials that claimed many lives. Most beings live within great cities, shielded from the outside world, with all the provisions they could ever need and not a care for what goes on beyond their sheltered lives.   However the world is not well. The Acrean Empire, the once undisputed ruler of the world, has splintered into numerous warring factions, its' Living God Emperor having secluded himself since the events of the Cataclysm. The stability and progress brought about by the Golden Age now seems naught but a myth and monstrous beasts now roam the lands between the great cities.   In a place where the people do not care and armies are constantly on alert, it falls to the adventurers and mercenaries of the world to perform the vital tasks that maintain some semblance of order in a chaotic world. Few are those who would willingly step beyond the comforts of civilisation but the great rewards lure the brave few out into the deep, dark places of the world. For the luckiest among them, immortality and even godhood could lie within their grasp.
