The Kingdom of Guardia

The Kingdom of Guardia is a large kingdom founded by uniting the Altirisian humans from the west, the city-state of Zephyr in the east, and the ancient dwarven kingdom of Korth-Ur.

History

When Altiris fell, there was a long time where the area now known as Guardia was divided. The halflings controlled most of the settlements to the west of the Ur’grim mountains, the dwarves had settled in and around the mountains, and the humans were walled up in Zephyr. The three factions tended to keep to themselves, partly out of distrust, but mostly because the land between them was overrun by barbaric groups of creatures such as giants, cyclops, and orcs. Eventually, a man named Beldric Cormorlin rose to power within the army of Zephyr, and began to lead his followers on a crusade to unite the peoples of the east in response to the growing unification of the newly-founded Vesperin Empire. A righteous man of strong religious belief, he led an army of highly-skilled warriors around the G’aarjya desert, taking out many of the orc tribes that had long plagued nearby villages. Eventually, they moved westward, and Beldric formed a treaty with the dwarves of the Korth-Ur kingdom. If he was able to drive the giants out of the area, they would join him in his quest for unification. Many dwarves joined Beldric’s ranks, and together they pushed back an army of giants that had long held the Ur’grim mountains in their clutches. In doing so, this caused the dwarves and halflings to support his cause. Once Beldric had unified the three races under a common banner, he officially founded the kingdom of Guardia, and became its first king: Beldric Guardia.

Demography and Population

While humans are extremely common all over Eumaea, most of Guardia's population are of Dwarven descent, though Dwarven populations are more concentrated in historically Dwarven cities, such as Jortun and T'Chor-Va. In the eastern cities, Half-orc populations are more common, as many are descendants of the orc tribes that live around the fringes of the desert. Oxburg also has a relatively high number of tieflings in its population. Halflings are more common to the west of the mountains, as these are their ancestral lands. Following is a rough population breakdown:
  • Human: 40%
  • Dwarf: 30%
  • Halfling: 15%
  • Half-Orc: 10%
  • Other: 5%
