Bloodphage
A brutal plague that spreads effecting both body and mind in unexpected ways due to its volatile nature and rare occurrence very little is known about the disease from doctors in other regions, The Parasite creates cults referred too as The clot swarm built around the plague, leaving it to spread slowly but be hard to destroy but on hitting a critical mass it almost can't be stopped its one goal is to infect as many people as possible spreading far and wide.
Bloodphage causes exhaustion a rather lethal condition seen bellow;
Level Effect Exhaustion; (you suffer the effect of both the level you're on and the levels bellow)
1. Disadvantage on Ability Checks
2. Speed halved
3. Disadvantage on Attack rolls and Saving Throws
4. Hit point maximum halved
5. Speed reduced to 0
6. Death
Each long rest you make a DC 14 constitution saving throw if you fail you gain one level of exhaustion but you also do not loose a level of exhaustion for that long rest. if you succeed take a note of this as 3 consecutive succession cures you of Bloodphage.
you must also make a DC 14 constitution saving throw if clot flies are formed from your blood if you fail you gain one level of exhaustion. Note these successful throws DO NOT count towards your 3 consecutive saves.
Transmission & Vectors
consuming or having infected blood come in contact with your blood. or being attacked by a clot fly, clot father or clot mother, the cults that are built around this also use the blood like a poison. the clot flies can breed in other large mammals but not cold blooded creatures or creatures with resistance to magic.
Causes
A curseded disease created by an attempted litch who tried to create a living falactory, so his evil spirit was put into the blood of those who it infects this in turns infects more people and when there is enough clot flies they meta morph into a clot father who manipulates infected people into making a cult who then kidnap strong individuals and infect weak individuals and attack groups of doctors or law enforcement that reduce the spread, the kidnapped strong individuals are systematically infected causing there blood to grow thicker and thicker until there hearts give out and the blood seeps out of them creating a single entity called a clot mother which is used as a weapon against the more resistant individuals. when a whole village is taken individual cult members are sent out to pass on the plague many of which die on the journey but enough make it to new cities to spread the plague once more with a few people getting infected and a clot father germinating in a private location.
Symptoms
It starts by causing minor fatigue which either clears up or becomes more serious until it kills the person if untreated. The more notable Symptom is the animation of evil abjurations from spilt blood any breaking of the skin causes 1d4 clot flies to spawn and on death of a creature infected the infection enters a rapid face spawning 1d10 clot flies out of any wound and if there is no wound takes 1d6 hours for them to escape the body.
For animal Carriers they have slowed movement (-20ft) and then get a fever and die, dying in such a way causes no clot flies to be spawned if the creatures skin stays intact for 5-10 days after death if not 1d10 clot flies spawn from the wound. if it is cut during this time even small brakes in the skin one clot fly will rip a tear in the side of the creature killing it and spawning 1d10 +5 clot flies which will then infect and kill more creatures in the area or form a clot father
Treatment
immune strengthening drugs holy water and blood thinning drugs are all used in cohesion to remove the disease from the body over a 5 days of rest and lots of medical care and supplies you can make a recovery but this kind of treatment can't be done on mass so stopping spread is the most important thing. magic cures are also an option as lesser restoration can cure it over a 2 day long period but leaves you with disadvantage on avoiding infection in the future unlike remove curse which cures the disease with no long term effects. greater restoration combined with blood letting can allow you to fully recover but does spawn clot flies that could attack near by public or the doctor or spell-caster.
alternatively 3 days usage of magic suppressants (such asAnti magic drug(weave-lock)) can give your body time to remove the curse as you are unable to fail the constitution check while effected by this drug
Prognosis
if there is no medical supplies isolate your self and wait for your slow and painful death as your blood thickens and your heart gives out or take the easy way. if you can afford treatment get it as soon as possible and avoid sharp objects as the life of you and every one around you depends on it. don't get infected in the first place if you can and avoid contact with cultists.
Sequela
if you where cured using methods other then remove curse you will have disadvantage on avoiding reinfection if you are ever to come in contact with it again.
Affected Groups
any humanoid though the poor are more vulnerable. it may also infect large mammals though the symptoms are slightly different.
Hosts & Carriers
clot flies are unable to eat and die within a few weeks clot mothers can sap the energy from clot flies and clot fathers can eat and drink like the humanoid hosts of the clot swarm disease. the humanoids have symptoms but it has not been observed in animals probably due to the plague reeling on humanoid cults for infection and its human origins.
Carriers such as farm animals tend to die on spawning a single set of clot flies after even small breaks in the skin.
Prevention
wear thick clothing too avoid getting pricked with infected needles blades or even the probuscus of a clot fly other than that don't drink any infected blood.
Epidemiology
its a fast spreading very lethal plague that can bring a nation to its knees in a matter of months only surviving by killing a huge populous. it is sometimes used as a method of biological arcane warfare which can definitely backfire
History
it is rare and kills quick so most don't know of its origin effects or even best treatment most doctors will only know how to suppress symptoms while priest hoods can attempt to remove the curse with eather remove curse or lesser restoration. The litch who first made the disease is now long dead as his immortality was a farce but he lives on through the clot fathers who take his appearance as they charm people into The clot swarm
Cultural Reception
it strikes fear into those who will be hurt the most a personification of pestilence and death for those who are less wealthy and more vulnerable, on the other hand the cults have a long lasting cultural effect on the area some may even consider the disease to be a blessing after being cures.
