The Birth of "Humans"

In an attempt to impress Adar, Lagahashra creates the edain; an intelligent and social species with a gift for creative adaptation and violence. Adar is impressed, but begins to clandestinely shape the edains’ evolution into a more peaceful and creative species. Lagahashra is unaware of this. Unbeknownst to either of them, this species is the ancestor of modern humans.

Over the next thousand years, the edain became more technologically advanced, spread across the world and adapted to fill all ecological niches.   Their gift of adaptation, a blessing from Adar, allowed them to intermingle with other races and earn a welcome place in other cultures. Isolated groups of forest-dwelling edain interbreed with the fey-like creatures of the Godswood; these are the early ancestors of gnomes. Still other groups intermingle with giants, creating the ancestral goliaths, and so on.
