Brygge

A small fishing village on the edge of an untamed wilderness known for their lively fish market. It’s a picturesque place – crystal blue lake with rocky beaches along it, but travelers and adventurers are encouraged to avoid it due to its reputation. Some curse affects the inhabitants – they are slow-witted and short-lived, rarely living past their 30s, and everyone who lives there is affected by it after a time. They have been in a constant battle with the Fish heads (Sahuagin) that inhabit an underwater city in the lake. Many have tried to cure the curse from the village, however no one has discovered the rather sad truth of its origin.

Demographics

Bryggarians have the highest percentage of half-elfs in the world in their population with 26%. Almost all of them are half wood elf and are decently tanned, for an elf. Half-orcs also make up a large percentage of the population with 39%. These half orcs are grey-green in color. There are always humans in Morsgovian towns, but not as many here. The population is 29% human, with a majority of them being tanned from working hard under the sun. There is a remainder of halflings that make up 5% of the population and also like most halflings next to none of them were born in Brygge, but have moved here to follow dreams of fishing. They are almost always stout halflings. 1% of the population contains many other races: brass dragonborn, tortles, and goliaths.

Government

There is a single noblemen who dictates, collects taxes and upholds the law in this small town of less than 1000 people. The nobleperson candidates are appointed by popular vote, then each candidate is subjected to non-lethal pitted combat against each other. The winner is elected to be the noblemen of Brygge. This makes the elected official generally well-respected, with minimal guards required to enforce his rulings. Most guards are used to protect Bryggarian fishermen from the "Fish heads." Though the noblepeople are expected to do a lot of paperwork inside the town hall, they are also expected to stay amongst the people as often as possible, to help solve disputes and enforce their own laws since the guards have to guard the shorelines 24/8.

Defences

The guards are hearty in strength, but few in numbers. All are in the prime of their lives, since the average lifespan has decreased so drastically from the curse. They typically can't be seen in the in-land square, you fill find nearly all of them by the docks, protecting the fishermen that provide for Brygge from the "Fishheads."

Industry & Trade

Fishing is Brygge's #1 trade, and it is the #1 place for freshwater fish in all of Morsgoavia! But the 20 year war with the "Fish heads" has really decreased the successful fishing rates.

Infrastructure

The lively fish market on the dock half of the village used to be known as a notable place for tourists to go, when tourists were allowed into the village. The market had people throwing fish back and forth from stall to stall making trades on the fly. The atmosphere was joyous and infectious, but now the vendors tend to keep to themselves, hoarding what little fish their fishermen were able to catch. There are a couple miscellaneous shops on the grounded half of the village in a square with a 100 foot well in the middle of the village. The drinking water almost overflowing as of late, with the population decreasing.

History

Brygge was the final location of the maligned half-elfs that used to call Dømtby their home. Steadily the population increased passed being exclusively half-elven, however Brygge is regarded as one of the greatest places to live as a half-elf because of perfect blend of harmony between wilderness, and civilization. However, around 25 years ago, suddenly the fish population began declining because the Sahuagin had left their previous ocean home for Morstarer lake. They had been cast out successfully by the Sea elves to the south, but now pester the Bryggarians. A 20 year battle for food has persisted into the year 450 ADC. And for the last 10 years, every Bryggarian over the age of 30 has been cursed to die. The village is on the break of losing this brawl with the Sahuagin and therefore losing their culture and access to this once perfect harmonious lake.

Architecture

The humble fishing village is nothing spectacular at first. However, the greatest architectural achievement of this small village is half of the town is suspended by a wooden dock infrastructure that hangs over Morstarer lake. The cottages are mostly made of wood, with straw roofing. The fish market square may not have flashy signs and well-built stalls, but it was once known for it's friendly and boisterous character.

Geography

The earth is sedimentary along the waterbed of Lake Morstarer. Lake Morstarer is a crystal blue reservoir that is fed water from the mountains of the Lower Territories and feeds water to the Amme River. The mountains can be seen over the horizon of the lake westward, but the terrain in Brygge is very flat. Plains to the south and east and The Amme Jungle a short journey to the north.

Freshwater fish is the one thing Brygge is known for.
