Scar
This Realm military base exists to hold and protect the massive harbour that in turn supports the annual argosies that carry the tribute of the South West to Arjuf.
Five Talent Beach runs along most of the northern headland and is used by galleys and smaller ships to perform maintenance and repairs - a dry dock is in the early stages of construction but as of now there are no repair facilities beyond a sawmill that can provide timber harvested from the local forests.
Most of the harbour is deep enough to sail over but shallow enough to easily anchor, while there are also good hardwood piers for transshipping and ships that wish to tie up and minimise the size of their anchor watch.
On-shore accommodation is provided by wooden barracks and cook-houses, essentially identical to those of the garrison except for being outside the walls. Whole warehouses are available for lease but the lessee is responsible for security, members of the garrison are willing to provide this for a consideration.
Lacking an official name the outpost and harbour are commonly referred to as Scar for the damage done when the Realm seized them five years ago. Burned patches in the earth, twisty columns of basalt and dead trees that are not safe to fell (due to stone slivers embedded in them) all remain a common sight.
The base is a wooden stockade constructed of trunks driven into the ground with projecting towers and three gates, and was obviously constructed with an eye to minimising cost and garrison size. There are no large open areas inside the walls, though there is a flattened parade ground in the cleared zone outside. Rough wooden buildings include barracks, cook-houses, refectories, storehouses, armouries and a small hospital. The only stone structure is the large house used by the senior staff as home and headquarters.
