The Black Treatise

One of the two foundational texts of sorcery, believed to have been written by the first sorcerer herself and the second text (after The White Treatise) that new sorcerers consult. Available in most large cities as a Resources 3 purchase (in the Realm 4 and only legally available to Dynasts). The writing is accessible and allows a sorcerer to learn the following spells:

Death of Obsidian Butterflies

Powerful but indiscriminate area attack - by hordes of butterflies with implausibly sharp wings. Can be parried as well as dodged.

Demon of the First Circle

Summon a single demon of the first circle in a ritual that lasts from sunset to midnight. Needs information about the demon or type of demon to be summoned and technically does not control them, though the latter is not a problem as Exalted are empowered to control demons they summon (or at least try) via this spell.

Emerald Countermagic

Block or break a Terrestrial spell, or Thaumaturgy, or equivalent Necromancy

Invulnerable Skin of Bronze

Transform the caster's skin to armour until the next time the sun croses the horizon

Stormwind Rider

Conjure a whirlwind that carries the caster and a small group just above the ground at 100mph, it can jump obstacles 50' wide and 30' high. Controlling it requires concentration and when the caster sets foot on the ground the spell ends.
Necromancers often refer to The Book of Bone and Ebony as The Black Treatise to conceal that they are discussing forbidden lore.
