The Book of Bone and Ebony

Foundational text of Necromancy, sometimes called The Black Treatise, relying on context to distinguish from the catalogue of Sorcery spells of the same name. When secrecy is less important it is also known by the titles The Black Treatise of Necromancy or The Second Black Treatise

The first section the Book of Bone covers the process for initiating into Necromancy as well as a notation system for spells (based on the one Silur created for Sorcery), while the the Book of Ebony demonstrates the notation for the first five Necromantic spells ever cast:

  • Iron Countermagic
  • Piercing the Shroud
  • Raise the Skeletal Horde
  • Rune of Sweet Passing
  • Summon Ghost

Forbidden in any civilised nation that has heard of it, acquiring a copy is a difficult process that includes at least a Resources 4 purchase

The initiation process is not safe as at the time it was written the only known process involved entering the labyrinth and listening to the whispers of the Neverborn
