Ice Farming Settlement of White River.
On the banks of the White River, which is the longest river in the land of Aquin , is the settlement of the same name. The River and the town are frozen for 9 months of the year but that is its most productive time. The settlement of White River is on the last southern bend in the river before it slides into the sea and that allows for both a flow of freshwater ice and a relatively clear harbour for trading ships to dock.
There is no land access to the settlement apart from some minor village roads and all produce from the outside world needs to come by sea.
What sustains the settlement is its export of high-quality pure frozen freshwater ice. The ice is of such quality that often there are no air bubbles visible within the slab of ice. This makes it a luxury item in the nations of Romalia.
The ice is first warehoused in White River until the ice carriers can dock in the port after the trade route opens after the winter has subsided. It is then taken north to the ports in Kotto , Morarron or Central Aquin. From the ports of Kotto or Morarron, the ice can then be passed onto the traders who will carry the ice further north along the Zients Old Order Trade Routes either using the Great Southern Route or The Eastern Stepps Route to reach their end destinations. The ice can eventually reach Ambergris and will fetch 100 times its original price.
The settlement is about 900 years old but was originally a fishing village. The ice production started about 700 years ago when the ships were further developed to protect and transport the ice and weather the bad storms in the area. The settlement now has about 8,000 people.
