Noxflora

Noxflora are bioluminescent plants that thrive in the perpetual twilight of the Umbra. Their tendrils and leaves glow with an ethereal, soft light that ranges from deep indigo to vibrant emerald green. These plants have delicate, fern-like fronds that unfurl gracefully from a central stalk, creating a mesmerizing, cascading effect. The glow of the Noxflora intensifies during the underground night cycle, providing a faint but essential source of illumination for the creatures of the depths.

Habitat:

Noxflora can be found clinging to the walls of caverns, growing in clusters along the banks of subterranean rivers, and spreading across the floor of the Umbra. They prefer damp, cool environments where they can absorb the moisture and trace minerals from the surrounding rocks.

Unique Properties:

The bioluminescence of Noxflora is not just for illumination; it serves as a means of communication and attraction. The plants emit a faint, rhythmic pulsing that can signal other Noxflora, creating vast networks of interconnected glowing patches. Additionally, their light attracts certain pollinating insects and small creatures, which help in the plant's reproduction.

Interaction with Fauna:

Both Noxflora and Gloomcaps serve as vital sources of sustenance and shelter for the inhabitants of the Umbra. Various insects and small animals feed on their bioluminescent tissues, while larger creatures use the glowing patches as landmarks in the otherwise dark and disorienting environment.

Legends and Myths:

According to the cult of Emtyus, the Noxflora and Gloomcaps are believed to be gifts from their dark god, manifestations of the void's power brought into the material plane. It is said that those who consume the bioluminescent parts of these plants and fungi can gain temporary glimpses into the void, experiencing visions of cosmic truths and the end of all things.
