Mercardo Ward
Located as soon as you enter Roseport , the Mercardo Ward is filled to the brim with bustling marketplace activities. The border of the ward is cluttered with proper shops, Best Shot Tinkerer's Shop, Tom's Tools and Hardware, The Frosting Forge, and a shop that deals with chilled desserts, to name a few. On the inner town square, there is located a massive stage - the Trent Ivy Theatre - where outdoor performances, song and dance, and plays are often shown.
Cracked light-colored cobblestone makes up the ground of this ward. The white/yellow-ish limestone of the proper shops lightens the area. Many of the full-blown shops sell their goods through the bottom of their store, with the upper half of the store being their living quarters. One may find a blacksmith covered by the upper floor of his house, but slaving away over an iron chest plate, or a Gnome woman lining up her clothes in a fashion that directs eyes towards the shop.
The colors of the Mercardo Ward are fascinating. The colorful fabrics sold by cloth-keepers mix with the fragrant spices and yellow limestone around. The smell permeates with dead animals - probably the Half-Giant butcher in the foreground of the Ward, with his slain meats draped over his multitude of tables. There is a general air of cordiality among the city folk here. They work together to set up their tents and shops each morning, and typically go to the Needy Meaderie after work is done for the day to catch up with each other.
The market shop owners realized the profitability of setting up shop next to a theater and did thusly. The proprietors of the market are a part of the local Merchant's Guild, which is a proto-union and is used for labor law lobbying. Some of the markets that are open throughout the day in the Mercardo Ward are the Fine Fabrics and Fowl Foods shop, owned by a Firbolg woman in her elder years who scavages for food scraps and fabrics throughout the day, selling them as "exotic" goods. There is also Matilda's Magorium, the proprietor being a young Elvish woman who, in certain lighting, can look like an old hag. This shop sells scrolls and minor magical items. There is a bard often sitting on a wooden crate with his belongings laid out in front of him, for sale. There are many more shops that make up the Mercardo Ward, but too many to list them all.
