William de Mandeville

Second son (and heir) of the notorious outlaw earl Geoffrey de Mandeville, who rebelled against both King Stephen and the Empress Matilda during the Anarchy.   King Richard appointed William joint Chief Justiciar of England alongside Hugh de Puiset, expecting the two of them to run England as viceroys during his absence on Crusade. However, William died before Richard left England, the the king instead appointed his Chancrllor of Aquitaine, William Longchamp, to take his place.   Richard quickly found a new husband for William's widow, Hawise of Skipton.
