The Watchtower Tavern & Inn
Legend tells that it was manned by an order of elite knights known as the Watchers of Avaria. They were known for their steadfastness and indomitable spirit, always ready to protect their kingdom. However, as the relations between Avaria and Kokoro strengthened over time and turned from tense distrust to mutual respect, the need for such a watchtower diminished.
As decades turned into centuries, the once important Watchtower fell into disuse and was eventually abandoned. Its once formidable stone walls began to crumble, and nature started reclaiming what was hers. For many years, the tower remained a forsaken ruin, a reminder of a bygone era.
The transformation came when a former adventurer named Alden Windwalker decided to convert it into a tavern and inn. Alden, after many years of journeying through Faeloria, wanted to settle down and saw the potential in the neglected tower. The refurbishment process was not easy; the tower's former grandeur had faded, and many thought it to be a fool's errand. But Alden was known for his stubbornness.
The old watchtower's robust stone structure was preserved, but its interiors were entirely renovated. The ground floor was transformed into a cozy tavern with a large hearth at its center, filling the area with warmth and the enticing aroma of roasting meats and baked goods. The original stone walls were left exposed but were cleaned and refurbished to retain their historical charm. Tapestries and paintings of great heroes of Avaria and tales of Alden's own adventures adorn the walls, adding a splash of color and intrigue.
The tower's upper floors were converted into rooms for travelers. Each room is compact but well-furnished, with comfortable beds, wooden furnishings, and windows offering stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. The top floor of the tower, once the vantage point for watchful soldiers, is now a scenic viewing platform open to all guests.
Renamed "The Vigil's Rest," the inn and tavern are now a well-known stopover for travelers between Avaria and Kokoro. The intriguing blend of its historical significance, Alden's adventurous tales, and the warm hospitality makes it a uniquely welcoming haven. Alden's endeavor gave the ancient watchtower a new life, preserving a piece of Avarian history while serving the needs of the present.
