Old Town
"High minded types with a superiority complex that often means that they'll stick their posher thugs on you before they demand you thank them for the priviledge."Phlan's Old Town is mainly a residential area for the town's richest and most powerful citizens. Considered the most prestigious (and expensive) part of Phlan, it contains heads of merchant & banking Houses, local nobility, guild leaders and senior government officials. Deriding it's name from being the original site of Phlan when it was first established centuries ago, those who live here believe themselves to be the "true" citizens of Phlan, especially in comparision to the migratory population of New Phlan . Many of the buildings still bear architecture & foundations that are hundreds of years old and often history is merged with wealth. Huge mansions and estates are crowded together haphazardly with little thought for planning as the sites are constantly rebuilt & expanded on the whims of their owners. Apart from the large estates, they are several high end eateries and the occasionally commercial property for those that cannot afford it. Part of Old Town's popularity is that the district remains within the protection of the city walls and aside from Valjeno Castle, is often the last of the town to fall in the event of an attack. Crime is minimal as the Black Fists are paid handsomely to keep the peace and keep out undesirables, supplemented by the guard and mercenary forces that help guard Phlan's most wealthy.
Points of Interest
- The Crooked Crown - Phlan's most exclusive (and expensive) tavern, frequented by only those who can truly afford it. Tables are often reserved months in advance and they host some of high society's biggest events & functions.
- Duchy House - Headquarters of the Merchant's Alliance which houses their main offices, staff and security contingent. All visitors require a prior appointment.
- Melvaunt Embassy - The industrious City of Melvaunt's (Phlan's neighbour and sometime ally) official presence in Phlan. The building stands out as it resembles a Melvanian foundry and is known to host their famous steam airships.
