Order of the Silent Shroud
“These guys are just plain creepy, hanging round dead bodies all night has got to do things to a person.”In Phlan, the Order of the Silent Shroud take responsibility for the interment of the town's dead. Primarily they oversee the care of the Valhingen Graveyard on the outskirts of Phlan ensuring the proper rites and rituals are maintained. They follow the God Kelemvor (God of Death & Justice) and in keeping with their deity they pass silent judgement over the deemed faithless. When, as is often the case, an unidentified corpse is brought before them they carefully clean and bury them. They also keep a careful watch for any signs of corruption among the living and the dead. The grisly rumours surrounding the fate of would be grave robbers means the sites in their care are places of respectful peace. However it is said in recent times that the lure of coin means that some of the Order will turn a blind eye to less savoury goings on in the cemetery they are responsible for. Many of the cities richer citizens pay a premium for the location of their final resting place. In recent times the graveyard overlooking Phlan has become littered with ever more elaborate mortuaries as the wealthy seek to out-do each other, even in death. This means the Order have substantial coffers to call upon should they require outside assistance.Saramonus the Pure
