Valhingen Graveyard

Valhingen graveyard has been the long standing burial site for Phlan and the region for almost as long as the town itself and is currently under the control of Order of the Silent Shroud . The gated-in site consists of thousands of plots and over fifty tombs and crypts as well as a temple and living quarters for the local priests. In exchange for a few silver coins, they will take any corpse and inter or dispose of it as requested, along with the associated rites. Larger donations are required for more prominent or permanent burial, which in turn fund the Order's work and maintaining the site and it's magical defences.   Named after the first crypt of House Valhingen, it was built as a secure site to incarcerate corpses safe from necromancy and has been in various states of upkeep and under different ownership throughout its existence. After it fell into total disrepair and a subsequent outbreak of undead in 1457, the Phlan's Ruling Council demanded that the graveyard be brought under direct ownership. In 1607, caretakership was given to the Order of the Silent Shroud . As followers of the god Keremor, one of their key tenants is hatred of un-death and so proved perfect caretakers. Though the local Order is small, they keep the graveyard well maintained and guarded from those who would seek to profit from the dead and have the skills necessary to defend themselves from trouble both magic and material. However, when they have faced bigger threats they have turned to mercenaries and adventurers for support.
