The Society

While The Society's scientific cousin, The Royal Society is well known and even has an official starting date of 28 November 1660, The Society's beginnings are steeped in mystery. Many say that it first appeared with, or shortly after, the Gregorian mission to England in 596, but others say it only dates back as far as William the Conqueror. And although the Society began as a search for religious identity, it appears to have turned away from those beginnings. But the most persistent rumours are that The Society was involved in the founding and in the destroying of The Library of Alexandria, and that a spell has prevented any members from re-discovering the elusive library for over two thousand years.   Unlike it's cousin organisation, The Society is not as interested in how the world works, as in how it can influence the world through art and writing. Detractors say it works in the shadows and for its own purposes. It's employees and proponents insist that The Society's purpose is nothing more than to explore the unknown.

Enterprises

I could tell you what The Society is up to, but then I would have to kill you

Legacy

Many people say that the legacy of The Society is a certain type of Fairy Tale. Well, that and the categorisation of numerous important magical items. Others say the only legacy The Society has is propaganda and both the destruction and theft of countless artifacts.

Motto

Verba Sunt Omnia
— translated as The Words are All, or Words are Everything depending on your source

Goals

The earliest known goals of The Society were to reduce the influence of demons and destructive magic on Earth, and to categorisation and safe keep various powerful artifacts. Over the years it has sent many historians and writers to document FaerLand and its surrounding territories. While never quite managing to gain a foothold in FaerLand itself, The Society has set up a thriving village in Broceliande, but that too has had it's setbacks, both in the 1920's after a serious demon incursion, and more recently there has been a problem, but that information is still unavailable. All our scouts can say is that the village is currently empty and there have been signs of a battle.
The Society doesn't exist and if it does exist I wouldn't be talking to you about it.

Lawyers

The Society is represented by the firm Burcham, Steadfast and Silvertongue within Broceliande and FaerLand. Outside that territory they do not officially exist and so are not represented by anyone. Although Burcham, Steadfast and Silvertongue still manage to be very busy representing various people from all around the globe.
