Mount Hotenow

Mount Hotenow (pronounced HOE-teh-NOW), known to the ancient dwarves as Glaurimm, is a volcano amid the Crags mountain range, situated to the northeast of the city of Neverwinter on the Sword Coast North, deep in Neverwinter Wood. It is rumoured to be home to a large population of fire elementals, warming the Neverwinter River to the point where it never froze over, even in the heart of winter (hence the city's name).

Sometime in the year 1451, something happened,... and the mountain exploded killing thousands and destroying huge sections of the countryside and wiping out half of Neverwinter city. The resultant earthquake in combination with the onslaught of smoke and lava was unstoppable.

Lotties's memories of growing up in the area are, that locals said that the mountain looked like it had a set of serrated teeth. She and her childhood friends described it as a "door to the Nine Hells".

History around it, suggested there may be an internal structure, but no one recently has thought even twice about approaching the mountain. Between a sense of grief and tragedy, many families have been irrevocably destroyed by it. There's little to gain by tempting fate.

About 50 years ago, in Lady Lottie's teenage years, she did hear of a possible Dwarven expedition to find some truth to this. Again, the belief is only chaos and sorrow meets the wanderer in that place.

Neverwinter is currently underway with a legimate rebuilding effort led by Dagult Neverember Despite rumours over his right to rule, he appears to actually have a firm grasp over the governance and is bringing the city out of the ashes.
