Manistrad Copperlocks is a sharp witted, iron-willed, hard-working woman of few words, relatively young by dwarven standards, but a competent leader and savvy miner nevertheless, although she seeks to prove her capabilities and earn respect by dedicating herself to seemingly insurmountable challenges. She is curt and abrupt, tending to push for quick results over a more measured approach, and is not above lashing out to reinforce an opinion or delivering a few blows to ensure her instructions are followed.
Her latest undertaking is the establishment of an excavation and mining operation that has based itself in Saltmarsh . Manistrad is convinced that minor veins of rare minerals found in exploratory digs in the cliffs and hills south of town are indicative of more valuable strikes deeper in the rock, anticipating that these extend from very profitable strikes at the western tip of the Sword Mountains.
Manistrad occupies an awkward place on the town Council. The bylaws state that anyone residing in town for 30 consecutive days may be deemed a resident and eligible to nominate and vote for Council candidates. By “stacking” the town with associates and employees for three tendays, Manistrad secured sufficient votes to be elected. While this legal manipulation of the rules amused Gellan Primewater, and her discipline and stalwart support of maintaining lawful order has won Eliander Fireborn's approval, she has no friends in any of the other Councillors or most of the town’s core populace.
Unfortunately, this is exacerbated by Manistrad being primarily motivated by self-interest - she cares little for town business that does not further her goals, with zero patience and even less sense of diplomacy, and no concern for smoothing over any tension she causes. Manistrad thinks the town is a convenient backwater and sees the rest of the council, save for Eliander, as rustic dullards.
Her base is a leased manor house from a wealthy merchant who now lives in Waterdeep, and she splits her time between there and wherever the main site activity happens to be.

Manistrad...- has utter disdain for Anders Solmor, seeing his youth and impulsiveness as reprehensible in both political and business leadership roles;
- acknowledges Eda Oweland's position of authority and wisdom of age, and finds her willingness to stand her ground, cuss or trade barbs commendable, but sees her resistance to excavation and mining to be typical of rural naivety and ignorance;
- greatly admires Eliander Fireborn for his measured approach to decision-making and his passion for order and discipline, and further appreciates him being her only ally in pushing forward her agenda;
- finds Gellan Primewater to be sycophantic and contemptable and, as often as not, will object to his position or requests simply as a matter of principle.
