The Crypt and the Mask
23rd-27th of the Claw of Sunsets (3/22/1491-3/27/1491)
General Summary
After defeating the wandering spirits, dealing with removing a casket buried in acid, and several energetic talking chests, the party eventually came across a group of Crooked Finger agents lurking inside of a chamber. Though the element of surprise was lost due to Kumag's driftglobe, the party managed to eliminate the agents in spectacular fashion. A note was found on the corpse of the head agent, described by Kroushanc as "an evil plan". It informed the party that at the ball in a week's time that a "beast" would be released. The note also revealed Alvin the Butler had allowed the assassins into the manor, and was subsequently executed by Jared Koren.
The party set out to prepare for the upcoming ball, which mostly involved eating cheese from a mysterious old man selling magic items out of his cart. Adrian Avenicci, however, gathered together a crew of Nightingale assassins to infiltrate the ball.
Once inside the ball, the party mingled and scouted the premises. Sarug, a wizard from the Crescent Shield who joined the party at the request of Jared Koren, used his familiar to discover two "Suspicious" characters hiding in the back corner of the manor. Kroushanc interrogated the bunch, only to discover they were Adrian's agents the whole time.
Meanwhile, Adrian had located the Masked Noble who had supposedly ordered the killing of Kash Koren, and killed him in the library with a dagger to the back. Soon after, the guests were summoned to the central chamber by Jacquen Fen, owner of the estate.
Jacquen, after a brief toast, morphed into the Demon Lord Fred and prepared to slam the ground with a flaming strike.
