Everswirl of Alaron
The Everswirl of Alaron is a weather phenomenon in the Sword Sea, named after the closest major island to it. The Everswirl is a massive whirlpool spanning almost 4 miles in diameter which has been spinning continuously by some unknown means for the entirety of recorded history. The Everswirl and its surrounding area is oftentimes exposed to savage lightening storms.
The whirlpool has a distinct edge visible from beyond its reach where the water becomes a murky violet color. Passing beyond this border in a ship will suck it to the whirlpool's center without fail. Ships sucked into the center are either completely destroyed or launched several hundred feet from the center, often landing beyond the border. It is not known what determines if a ship is sank or volleyed.
The Everswirl occasionally acts as a portal between the Material Plane and Shaetheon, the Plane of Water. However, passing through the portal must be done with aid from a mer, a sentient from Shaetheon.
