Nyx Brightwood
Nyx Brightwood
Centuries ago, a small family of forest gnomes stumbled upon the Yuirwood, a large forest in the northeast of Faerȗn named for the Yuir elves that founded the land. These gnomes, seeking a place to call home, settled into a small grove with dense foliage where they could live in privacy for generations to come.
As the years passed, a group of humans, bearing the demonym “Aglarondans,” began their deforestation of the Yuirwood to establish their new kingdom. Fearing for their safety, the family of gnomes came out of their hiding to convene with the Yuir. The Yuir promised to begin diplomatic negotiations with the humans. As part of their accord, the Yuir offered the outskirts of the Yuirwood for the humans to settle in. Additionally, they appointed an Aleirin from their tribe who would act as an ambassador to the king of Aglarond. They asked the gnomes to appoint an Araegis from their family who would serve as the protector of the Yuirwood, defending the forest against any further threats…
Ten generations later, Nyx was born, with twin sister Nax, to her father Sabat and mother Josyn, the most recent holder of the title Araegis. Tradition warrants that the oldest child of the current Araegis gets apprenticed in the ways of the forest and hones their druidic power, but seeing as the twins were equal in age, they were both trained equally until the day came that it was time for a sole Araegis to be named. Nyx and Nax were both gifted garments befitting an Araegis as well as a tattoo that signified the completion of their training; but ultimately, it was Nax who was given the title of Araegis. Despite Nyx’s disappointment, she promised that she would fulfill her duties if ever she was called upon, but decided that she would not wait in the forest until she was called upon. Nyx set out to the city of Escalant to support both strangers or friends however she could.
